You are playing a game online and see a friend request pop up. You recognise the name of the gamer as a friend from school.
- What do you do?
- How do you know that this is your friend from school?
In groups of 2 or 3, discuss the steps that you could take to make sure that it is your school friend.

1. Ring, text, or message the person to confirm.
2. Speak to them at school and get them to write down their gamertag.
3. Set up a code word with a friend that you can use to prove who you both are.
4. Ask them a question that only they would know the answer to.

- Profiles should always be set to private β change your privacy settings.
- Profile images should not reveal locations.
- Profile images should not be easy to recognise; it is much better to use a picture of a pet or a cartoon character.
- Donβt reveal locations β this makes it easy to find out where you are.
- Making your date of birth public makes it easy for hackers to steal your personal information and set up fake accounts in your name.
- You should never reveal your phone number, email address, or home address on a public site.
- You should never reveal your current location on social media.
- Putting your full name, including a middle name, makes it easy for someone to steal your personal information. Always use a nickname or shortened version of your name.

- Check your privacy settings (friends only)
- Delete any images that might reveal your location
- Remove any geotagging of images
- Keep your date of birth private
- Avoid public profile pictures that might reveal your identity
- Use a strong password
- Check your friend list β could any of those friends be fake profiles?
